Upon graduation, I was selected to be a participant in “The Reid Group” internship program. The 8 week internship program was created by journalist Jacque Reid and geared toward training students for the world of broadcast journalism. The program began with its first course being held at Clark Atlanta University during the spring semester of 2012. Out of an all female class of 17–10 ladies were chosen to travel to New York City for the summer. As interns with the Reid Group, we participated in a number of workshops with Jacque Reid and WNBC’s Pat Battle to enhance live-shot skills, broadcast writing and field reporting. Aside from the workshops we were also placed in various intern positions based on our media interests and abilities.
My internship placement was at 30 Rockefeller Center with theGrio.com of NBC News. I worked as the Entertainment News Intern under the experienced Entertainment Editor Chris Witherspoon. My internship experience with theGrio.com/NBC News was PHENOMENAL!!! I wouldn’t trade my internship for the world if I could turn back time.
For me, this was my first time in New York and I am ready to take on all that the city brings! Words can not express how appreciative I was to have this opportunity. New York City—I MADE IT and I promise not to forget about 30 ROCK!
