Day 3, Lesson #14:
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough…” -Oprah Winfrey
During the holidays we tend to be more thankful for our lives, family members and friends. It’s ok… it’s all apart of the holiday spirit! But sometimes you have to take time out of your day to evaluate your life and write out the things you’re thankful for.
I came to this conclusion almost 3 years ago when my daddy was in a horrible car accident. During his 3 months in the hospital followed by several more months of recovery, I watched him regain his strength and maintain a positive attitude. That experience made me step back and realize all I had to be grateful for. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes an upside experience to shake us! Since then I made a vow to write down at least 5 things each month that I appreciate.
Here’s a look at my gratitude list filled with the top things I was most thankful for this year:
- My family and friends– I am fortunate to be surrounded by people who keep me motivated! If you don’t have a good circle…make the needed adjustments!
- A career that I love– I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… everyday I get the chance to do exactly what I dreamed of (even on the stressful days)! To top it off my job allows room for growth.
- Personal growth– There’s so much to say about the self-fulfillment you gain when you you’re happy with where you are in life and who you are.
*To keep up with your gratitude list, grab a journal and strive to write out your list once a month. You can also download several apps to keep track of your gratitude list on your phone.
My mentor has always said, “Anyday above ground is a good day…” with that being said enjoy each moment and always remember to be thankful.
